The Executive Director of the American Civic Association (“ACA”) released this statement on June 5, 2020:

We are deeply saddened by the tragic and sudden death of George Floyd. This incident is deeply troubling to members of the ACA community. We are seeing protesters around the country express their dismay to this tragic incident. We encourage these protesters to practice their first amendment rights, and continue to voice their concerns in a peaceful manner, like the protesters in the Binghamton area did last weekend.

Now, more than ever, we must stand together as a community. We must recall our shared values of peace, equality, and love to galvanize us during these trying times. During these trying times, I encourage you to reach out to your community members and check on one another.

As we grieve for a life lost, we need to strengthen our resolve to be part of the creation of a better world. May George Floyd rest in peace.

Sincerely,

Mayra Garcia
