The Community Foundation for South Central New York celebrated its 25th anniversary with a reception for friends, supporters, and donors at Kilmer’s Mansion on October 19th.
The Community Foundation is a nonprofit, headquartered in Johnson City, that encourages and facilitates personal and institutional philanthropy across the region. They manage 141 funds within the Foundation’s endowment that is established by donors who have specific charitable goals.
The reception concluded with a $25,000 donation to the American Civic Association in Binghamton.
“We were thrilled to welcome our many supporters to the historic Jonas Kilmer Mansion for a reception and announcement of the 25th anniversary grant award, Said Diane Brown, Executive Director at The Community Foundation for South Central New York. “The American Civic Association received our anniversary grant in recognition of the good work they do with refugees and immigrants to our community.”
Mirajudeen Started working at the ACA in January 2024.
He has a Bachelor’s of Arts & Laws from the American University of Afghanistan and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Human Rights at Binghamton University.
Mirajudeen is originally from Afghanistan and speaks English, Dari/Persian, Pashto fluently and Urdu, Kurdish, Hindi at different levels.
Farha Naz
Reception & Placement Program Supervisor
Farha Naz has been working at the American Civic Association as R & P Supervisor since April 2023.
She is a research scholar and feminist. She has a Ph.D. in gender studies, Asian Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in human rights, Binghamton University, State university of New York, USA.
She worked as a graduate teaching assistant, human development, Binghamton University. Her research specializes on the nexus of gender roles and relations, livelihoods, environmental vulnerability, and adaptation to climate change. She published several papers in peer-reviewed international journals on women’s rights and development. She is now exploring her research on migration, human trafficking, and women rights.
Gabriel Arauz
Outreach Coordinator and Logistics
Gabriel Arauz has been working at the American Civic Association since April 2023.
Gabriel has a Bachelors Degree in Sociology and is IBM Data Science Certified through Google Coursera Certificate Program.
Gabriel has an experience as an immigration case worker at World Immigration Center since 2020. He has also served in many industries such as retail, corporate, legal and IT.
Gabriel is of Cuban-Chinese decent, he speaks English and Spanish.
He is passionate about physical and mental health awareness. He strives to bring families together utilizing his technical, administrative and analytical skills.
Levern Jackson
Maintenance Supervisor
Levern Jackson has been working at the American Civic Association since 2008 as a Maintenance Supervisor.
