On March 12th, 2021 Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas designated Burma for Temporary Protected Status for a period of 18 months.

This allows Burmese nationals (and individuals without nationality who last resided in Burma) who reside in the United States to be eligible to file an application for temporary protected status provided that they meet the eligibility requirements. To be eligible to apply, Burmese nationals need to be able to demonstrate continuous residence since March 11th, 2021 and must be currently residing in the United States.

Individuals applying for Temporary Protected Status will also undergo standard security and background checks as a part of determining eligibility. Individuals applying for Temporary Protected Status will also be able to apply for work authorization documents with more details being released in the coming days.
