The American Civic Association hosted for the first time a series of events celebrating World Refugee Day on the week of June 21st. World Refugee Day is an international day designated by United Nations to honor refugees around the globe.
The series of events at the ACA started with the Opening Ceremony Night on Tuesday June 21st, we enjoyed listening to “True stories” from refugees living in the Binghamton area. They shared their personal experiences and challenges in their journey to the US.
On Wednesday the 22nd, ACA hosted a Movie Night screening “Captains of Za’atari”, an Oscar-nominated powerful movie about a refugee camp’s life.
On Thursday the 23rd, ACA celebrated World Refugee Week by hosting a Teen Night to educate our young adults about “Cultural Awareness”.
The week-long series of events was wrapped up by celebrating our annual All Nations. A parade of multicultural people along with Binghamton’s mayor, started from the city hall and ended at the American Civic Building where a celebration of diverse ethnicity took place.
